Welcome to the Dege Dialect Dictionary web site!
The majority of the entries come from word lists collected in the 1980s by Tibetan teachers and students at the then Southwest Minorities Institute in Chengdu. Words belonging to other Kham dialects, along with many literary terms, were removed from the database, and many words were added from my own studies and collections. Compilation began in the late 1990s while I was a student at the Institute (which later became the Southwest Minorities University). For the next two decades, work on the dictionary was very sporadic as it had to fit into my other work. But finally, here it is!
It is my hope that this dictionary will contribute to the growing body of data gathered on colloquial Tibetan dialects and be useful in comparative studies of such.
